Kobay Studio

Kobay Studio is my new venture, focused on ‘objects’ such as pieces of furniture or standalone items, rather than full-on builds like decks and bathrooms, or another way to look at it is anything I can make away from your home or business, then deliver or install. This is exciting for me because I have tons of ideas for some really stunning pieces of furniture, very creative designs that fill my head, and Kobay Studio will provide the outlet for me to bring these to reality, for clients looking for something truly unique and special.

I have been itching to build a resin river table for a long time, so if you would like a live edge table, desk, or even sideboard, let’s have a chat! Believe me when I say there are resin/river/live edge tables out there of such variable quality, I’ve seen some that really let the craft down. The key to a beautiful piece, is the quality of the materials used, the preparation of the wood, the quality and execution of the resin pour, the design itself, layout, structure, so many elements need to be perfect, but it can all go to waste by poor preparation or a poor finish process, lack of attention to the tiniest details, and trying to take shortcuts to what are very fastidious and time-consuming finishing processes. This is where I excel. I have also watched and studied the work and processes, through many tens of hours of video, of who I believe to be one of the true masters of the art and I can’t go without crediting him for inspiration, and insights, so big respect to Cam at Blacktail Studio in Portland Oregan. Take a look at his work https://www.blacktailstudio.com/shop

I’m up for any design/build challenges, but a couple of things I’d particularly like to do include an extremely creative kitchen design (anyone else bored with square and rectangular boxes with flat doors) or a sideboard with a twist (potentially literally). I will also be doing smaller pieces such as floor lights, (a potential series I am calling ‘meteorite’, dramatic and large bases with stunning bulbs to match.) to beautiful cutting and charcuterie boards, mixing beautiful live edge wood with resin-encased elements from Scottish lochs and shores… Christmas gift bait right there!

So if any of this inspires you please do get in touch, here on Guy4detail or via my new site www.kobaystudio.com. Let’s get creative! (Kobay Studio should be live by Oct 31 so please message via this Guy4Detail contact page till then)
